Nino Beridze

My family has lived in the same flat in Sololaki for four generations, with a wooden balcony that leans a little more every year and a courtyard shared with eleven neighbours who all know my business. I studied history at Tbilisi State University and have been guiding for eleven years. My old town walk starts at the Abanotubani sulphur baths, where you can smell the water before you see the brick domes, and climbs past the waterfall in the Leghvtakhevi gorge to the Narikala fortress. On the way down we pass the Betlemi stairs, the Armenian and Georgian churches side by side and the small synagogue on Leselidze street. I also walk the courtyards of Sololaki and Betlemi, and on quieter days I go up Mtatsminda and down through the botanical garden. I speak German because I spent a year in Leipzig. Everything I do is now live on video: I walk Tbilisi with my phone, and you can ask me anything as we go.
