Piotr Nowak

Dzień dobry. I am a licensed Kraków guide and an educator at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial, where I have guided groups since 2010. I studied history and Jewish studies at the Jagiellonian University, spent a year in Jerusalem at Yad Vashem, and have lived in Kazimierz for fifteen years. I know how heavy the subjects of my tours are, and I try to handle them with care and without drama. I prepare my groups on the way, I leave time for silence, and I talk about people, not statistics. I also guide the Wieliczka salt mine and Kazimierz, which I love for its life today as much as for its history. I grew up in Tarnów, an hour east, where my grandfather hid a Jewish family in his barn in 1943, a story I found out only after he died. I am married with two children and I coach my son's football team on Saturdays. From Krakow, I now guide on live video with my phone, and the chat stays open for your questions the whole time.
