I grew up watching the island castle from my grandmother's garden in Trakai, and I still find the walk across the wooden bridge exciting every time. I trained as a historian in Vilnius before coming home to guide on camera, and I like to show the brickwork close up, the parts rebuilt in the twentieth century next to the little that survived the centuries as a ruin. On a call I move slowly around the courtyard so you can see how the towers connect, and I always leave time at the end for questions about the Grand Duchy. I would rather explain one detail well than rush past ten.
