I have worked around Ankara's old markets for most of my adult life, first helping in a family shop and now guiding sessions through the same streets on camera. I like showing the spice shops of Ulus and the copperware stalls of Samanpazarı as two different sides of the same old commercial city. On camera I try to explain not just what is sold but why these particular trades settled in these particular streets. I keep my sessions formal and well organised, since the history of a market is easy to lose track of without structure.
