I trained as an art historian with a focus on German Romanticism, and I still think Caspar David Friedrich's Dresden landscapes are best understood by standing where he might have stood, along the Elbe or outside the museum that now holds several of his works. My sessions on the Albertinum stay close to its courtyard and facade, since the collection itself sits behind a ticket I cannot bring on camera, but I describe the rooms clearly enough that you know what to expect if you visit later. I keep a fairly formal, detailed pace and welcome specific questions about individual artists or paintings.
