  • 2002's floodwater, marked on the wall
  • A collection described from its own courtyard
  • Romanticism to contemporary, explained
  • The Albertinum's riverside facade

About this tour

This session stays outside the Albertinum, at its raised courtyard and riverside facade, since the collection itself sits behind a ticket. You see the courtyard, rebuilt above flood level after the Elbe overran the museum in 2002. The session finishes at the riverside facade, marked with flood height lines from that year.

We open with a short sound check in the courtyard. I describe several works from the collection in detail from here, since I cannot show them directly, and take questions throughout. Afterwards I send a short note on the artists represented, in case you plan to visit later.

This suits anyone who wants context on the collection before or after seeing it directly. It also works well alongside the Friedrich-focused session for a fuller look at German Romanticism in the city.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Not included

  • Internet connection

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Dresden before heading out.

  2. Albertinum courtyard 21 min

The camera takes in the museum's raised courtyard, built above flood level after the Elbe overran the building in 2002, and I explain how the collection inside runs from Romanticism to contemporary work.

  3. The riverside facade 21 min

We move to the side facing the Elbe, and I point out the markers showing how high the floodwater reached before the museum's later renovation.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Dresden: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Eierschecke (layered cake) and Altstadt, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Berlin time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
