Xoán Iglesias

I trained as a stonemason's apprentice for a year before deciding I preferred explaining carved stone to cutting it, and Master Mateo's Pórtico de la Gloria is still the thing I most want people to understand properly. On camera I show what is visible from the cathedral doorway and describe the figures in detail, since close filming further inside is not always possible. I finish most sessions in Praza da Quintana, the square of the living and the dead, and explain why it sits on two levels. I find video guiding suits close detail better than a group ever allowed.
