Musée Granet, from the cloister courtyard
Highlights
- A former priory turned art museum
- Stone gallery around a quiet courtyard
- Where old and new stone meet
- A building with several past lives
- Morning light on ancient stone
About this tour
This session looks at Musée Granet from the outside, through the courtyard of the former priory it occupies and the chapel added later to extend it. You see how the building's own history sits alongside the art it now holds. It is a short, architecture-focused look at a building most visitors only pass through quickly.
We take our time in the courtyard, since the light there changes the stone's colour noticeably through the morning. I answer questions about the building or the collection as they come up, and send a short note afterwards on what is currently on display inside.
This suits anyone interested in how buildings get reused over centuries as much as in the art itself. It also works well before or after visiting the museum yourself.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Aix-en-Provence before heading out.
-
Musée Granet courtyard 21 min
The camera stays in the courtyard of the former priory that now houses Musée Granet, looking up at the stone gallery that runs around it. I explain how the building itself changed use several times before becoming a museum.
-
The chapel exterior 21 min
Next door, you see the exterior of the museum's chapel annexe, added later to hold a larger collection. I point out the join between the old priory stone and the newer extension.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Aix-en-Provence: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Daube provençale and Cours Mirabeau, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Paris time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
