About this tour

This session looks at Montagne Sainte-Victoire from a viewpoint just outside the city, then down toward the vineyards and scrub at its base. You see the limestone ridge change colour as the light drops and the field shapes that still match paintings made over a century ago. It is a quiet, visual session built around one landform rather than a walk through streets.

We stay in one or two spots rather than moving constantly, since the point is watching the light change rather than covering distance. I explain the geology and the painting history as it comes up, and take questions throughout. A short note with a few reference paintings follows the call.

This suits anyone who likes a slower, more atmospheric session over a packed itinerary. It also pairs naturally with the Cézanne studio session for anyone following the painter's route further.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Aix-en-Provence before heading out.

  2. Viewpoint above the city 21 min

You look out from a terrace at the edge of Aix toward Montagne Sainte-Victoire, its limestone ridge catching the last direct sun of the day. I explain why the rock turns a different colour depending on the angle of the light.

  3. The valley floor 21 min

The camera drops down to the vineyards and pine scrub at the foot of the mountain, the same rough ground painted in the foreground of so many Cézanne canvases. I point out the shapes of the fields that still match his paintings.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Aix-en-Provence: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Ratatouille and Vieux Aix, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Paris time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking".
