Akureyri's fishing trade, a call
Highlights
- Decades of change in the fishing trade
- Old harbour photographs, explained
- A working life on Akureyri's boats
- Quotas, boats and markets discussed
- A fisherman's own view of the harbour
About this tour
This short call looks at how Akureyri's fishing trade has changed over the decades I have spent working boats out of the harbour, using old photographs rather than a live walk. I answer questions about the industry directly from experience, not a script. It suits someone who wants a working person's view of the town's history.
After a quick sound check I share a few photographs to start, then the conversation follows whatever you are curious about, quotas, boats, the market, or how the harbour itself has changed. I keep it conversational and send a short note afterwards with a few sources for anyone who wants to read further.
It suits anyone interested in maritime industry and working history, and anyone who cannot make a live harbour walk but still wants the detail.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
