Highlights
- Decades of deliberate forest planting
- A trail rising toward the ski slopes
- One mountain, summer and winter uses
- A planted forest south of town
- Akureyri's outdoor recreation, explained
About this tour
This session follows a planted forest south of Akureyri up toward the ski slopes on the mountain above it, showing how the same ground serves walkers in summer and skiers in winter. You see decades of deliberate tree planting, the trail that connects the forest to the higher slopes, and a viewpoint over the idle lift lines. It moves at a steady uphill pace with plenty of time outdoors.
After a short sound check among the trees, I walk the trail stop by stop, explaining the forest's history and the mountain's dual use before answering questions as they come. I send a short note afterwards on seasonal trail conditions for anyone who wants to visit themselves.
It suits anyone who enjoys forests and hiking, and anyone curious about Akureyri's mountain and outdoor recreation beyond the town itself.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
