The floating flower market, live
Highlights
- A flower market trading from barges since the 1800s
- Tulip bulbs in dozens of varieties
- Bulbs bred specifically for travellers to take home
- A short, colourful session on the water
- A cheerful break between heavier sessions
About this tour
This session covers the city's floating flower market, tracing how it has kept trading from barges on the Singel since the nineteenth century. You see stalls of cut flowers and bulbs and a close look at the huge variety of tulip bulbs sold specifically for travellers to take home. It is a short, colourful session built entirely around one market.
We move slowly along the stalls, since the colour and variety reward a closer look rather than a quick pass. I explain which bulbs travel well and which do not as we go.
It suits anyone planning to bring flowers or bulbs home themselves. It also works as a quick, cheerful session between two heavier history walks.
Included
- Live video session with a local guide
- A close look at the dishes and where locals buy them
- A short list of places and dishes to try later
Not included
- Food and drinks shown on camera

The camera holds on a display of tulip bulbs in dozens of varieties, and I point out which ones are bred purely for export rather than for planting in the Netherlands itself.

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
