Oosterpark, a quieter park east of the centre, live
Highlights
- A park laid out for a growing working-class district
- Wide lawns and ponds east of the centre
- A memorial sculpture explained plainly
- A quieter, more reflective kind of session
- A less-visited side of the city, properly explained
About this tour
This session covers a park east of the centre that most short visits skip entirely, laid out in the nineteenth century for a district that had almost no green space of its own. You see the park's ponds and lawns and a memorial sculpture that gives the park a specific, serious layer of meaning. It is a quieter, more reflective session than most of my others.
We walk slowly and I keep the tone measured throughout, particularly around the memorial. I leave space for questions rather than filling every silence with commentary.
It suits viewers who want to understand a less-visited part of the city and its history properly. It also suits anyone who prefers a calmer, more reflective session over a busy one.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Amsterdam before heading out.
-
Oosterpark Grounds 15 min
You see wide lawns and ponds laid out in the nineteenth century for a growing working-class district, and I explain how the park's design differs from the more famous park in the west of the city.
-
National Slavery Monument 15 min
The camera holds on a memorial sculpture within the park, and I explain plainly why it was placed here and what it commemorates.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Amsterdam: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Poffertjes and De Pijp, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Amsterdam time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
