Highlights

  • An open-air theatre with decades of free shows
  • Roses planted to bloom across the whole season
  • A closer, on-foot look at two specific corners
  • An empty stage set into the park landscape
  • A calmer add-on to a busier city session

About this tour

This session covers two specific corners of the city's largest park on foot rather than by bike, an open-air theatre with a long tradition of free performances and a rose garden planted to bloom across the whole season. You see the empty stage set into the park landscape and then the roses themselves up close. It is a slower, more detailed look than a full bike loop of the park allows.

We walk at an easy pace between the two spots, spending longer in the rose garden since there is more to see closely there. I explain the history of the free performance tradition as we look at the empty stage.

It suits viewers who want a closer, on-foot look at specific corners of the park rather than the whole loop. It pairs well as a calmer add-on to a longer city-centre session.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Amsterdam before heading out.

  2. Openluchttheater 21 min

You see the park's open-air theatre, used for free performances through the summer, and I explain how the tradition of free shows here began decades ago.

  3. Rose Garden 21 min

The camera moves through a rose garden near the park's pavilion, and I point out varieties planted specifically to bloom across different parts of the season.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Amsterdam: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Herring (haring) and De Pijp, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Amsterdam time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
