Aspendos, the Roman theatre outside Antalya, on camera
Highlights
- Almost complete Roman exterior wall
- Seating bowl curving to the top
- Stage wall's original decoration explained
- How the design carried sound
- Ruined arches of the old aqueduct
About this tour
This longer session covers Aspendos from the exterior wall to the stage building, with a stop at the aqueduct on the way back. You see the almost complete outer wall, the seating bowl curving upward, and the tall stage facade that once carried far more decoration than survives today. The aqueduct at the end adds the practical side of how the ancient city actually functioned.
I begin with a sound check outside the theatre, then we move through it stop by stop while you ask questions about the design and the acoustics. I try to stand in a spot where you can hear how the sound still carries. Afterwards I send a written note on the dates and the engineering details.
This suits anyone with a serious interest in Roman engineering rather than a quick overview. It also suits a traveller deciding whether the trip out from Antalya is worth the time.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 10 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Antalya before heading out.
-
Aspendos Exterior Wall 21 min
The camera looks up at the massive stone exterior of the theatre, still standing almost complete. I explain how the design channelled sound so well that it is still used for performances.
-
Theatre Seating Bowl 21 min
From inside, you see the rows of seating curving up toward the top. I point out the different sections and who would once have sat where.
-
Stage Building Facade 21 min
The camera settles on the tall stage wall behind where performers once stood. I explain what the original decoration would have looked like before it was stripped over the centuries.
-
Aqueduct Remains 21 min
On the way back we pass the ruined arches of the aqueduct that once supplied the ancient city. I point out how far the water had to travel to reach here.
-
Your questions 18 min
Time to ask anything about Antalya: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 8 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Hibeş (sesame and cumin dip) and Lara, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
