Hadrian's Library and the Roman Agora
Highlights
- A library's surviving entrance facade
- Reading rooms once hidden behind these columns
- The Tower of the Winds, face by face
- Roman Athens beyond the classical ruins
- Carved wind figures explained up close
About this tour
This session covers Hadrian's Library and the neighbouring Roman Agora, built after the Greek Agora had grown too crowded for the city's daily trade. Alexandros explains what the library once contained behind its surviving facade. He then moves to the Tower of the Winds, pointing out the carved figures on each face.
Alexandros checks the connection outside the library before walking the short distance to the Roman Agora, timing the route so both sites get equal attention. He answers questions about the Roman period in Athens as he moves between them. A short list of the buildings and their functions follows by message.
This suits travellers interested in the Roman layer of Athens's history, often overlooked next to the classical sites. It also pairs well with a tour of the nearby Ancient Agora.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
