Van Gogh's last Provence painting, explained
Highlights
- A discreet museum most visitors miss
- The last Van Gogh painting kept in Provence
- How the painting stayed in the region
- A garden echoing the period's style
- An hour of quiet, focused art history
About this tour
This session uses the discreet exterior of the Musée Angladon and a nearby garden to introduce the last Van Gogh painting still held in Provence. You see the building most visitors walk straight past, then a garden corner that echoes the period's painting style. Julie, who studied art history, explains how this particular painting came to stay in the region.
The call opens with a sound check outside the museum, then moves a short distance to the garden. Julie checks in often to make sure a detail has landed before moving on, keeping the pace unhurried throughout. A short list of what was covered follows by message afterwards.
This suits anyone with a specific interest in Van Gogh or Provençal painting. It also suits viewers deciding whether the museum is worth a future visit.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Avignon before heading out.
-
Musée Angladon exterior 21 min
The camera takes in the small museum's discreet façade, easy to walk past without noticing what it holds. I explain how a single Van Gogh painting ended up staying in Provence rather than leaving with the rest of his work.
-
Nearby garden view 21 min
You see a quiet garden corner near the museum, similar in feel to scenes Van Gogh painted nearby during his time in the region. I point out details that connect the garden to the period's painting style.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Avignon: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Berlingots d'Avignon and Intra-muros old town, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
