About this tour

This session moves between the Kammerhof courtyard and the Piarist church, two Baroque buildings that show a different side of a mining town. You see the carved ore-weighing marks in the courtyard stone, the painted ceiling inside the church and the detailed figures on the Trinity column outside. Together they show how much the mines paid for beyond machinery.

I keep the pace slow in both buildings, since ceiling painting and carved stone both need a steady camera. I explain the restoration work as we go and take questions on the painting technique throughout. A short reading list follows for anyone who wants more on the artists involved.

This suits anyone with an interest in Baroque art who assumed a mining town would have little of it. It pairs well with a walking session for context on the town's history.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Banská Štiavnica before heading out.

  2. Kammerhof Courtyard 17 min

You see the arcaded Renaissance courtyard from the centre, and I point out the carved stone marks once used to weigh mined ore.

  3. Piarist Church Ceiling 17 min

Inside, the camera tilts up to the painted ceiling, frescoes finished for the town's Jesuit community and still bright after restoration work.

  4. Trinity Column Detail 17 min

Back outside, I move in close on the carved figures of the plague column, weathered stone that most visitors only see from a distance.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Banská Štiavnica: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Pirohy and Akademická district, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Bratislava time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
