Plaça Reial and Gaudí's first commission
Highlights
- Palm trees under nineteenth-century arcades
- Gaudí's first public commission, overlooked
- Lampposts years before his famous buildings
- A well known square, one specific detail
- Two early works, one short walk
About this tour
This short walk covers Plaça Reial, a palm-lined arcaded square with a detail most visitors miss. You see the nineteenth-century facades around the square and then the lampposts at its centre, Gaudí's first public commission. It links a well known square to a lesser known early work.
I start under the arcades and move to the centre for the lampposts, explaining the commission's history as we go. Questions are welcome throughout, and I send a short note afterwards.
This suits anyone who wants a quick, specific detail rather than a general square. It also pairs well with a session on Palau Güell for two early Gaudí commissions together.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
