The Reichstag and the government quarter, live
Highlights
- A glass dome built to signal openness
- Government buildings kept deliberately low
- The Reichstag beside a bending river
- Reunification, told through architecture
- Berlin's modern government quarter
About this tour
This session looks at the Reichstag and the government quarter built up around it since reunification. You see the building's stone facade topped by a glass dome added during a 1990s renovation to symbolise transparency. The walk continues along the river past newer government buildings, built low and in a line so as not to tower over the historic Reichstag.
We open with a short sound check outside the building. I move at an easy pace along the river and take questions about the government quarter's design throughout. Afterwards I send a short note on the buildings we passed and their current functions.
This suits anyone interested in modern architecture and how a reunified government chose to represent itself. It also works well before a longer walk toward the Brandenburg Gate nearby.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
