About this tour

This live session follows the pintxo bars of Bilbao's Casco Viejo, from the Mercado de la Ribera to the Siete Calles and Plaza Nueva. You see the old town's seven original streets and the arcaded square where locals gather in the evening. The guide moves counter to counter, showing what a proper pintxo round looks like.

After a short sound check, the guide walks the route bar by bar, pausing at each counter to point out what is on display. You ask questions as you go, and afterwards a short list of the bars and dishes lands in your inbox.

This suits anyone curious about Basque bar culture, whether planning a trip to Bilbao or just wondering how a pintxo bar actually works. It also suits anyone missing the city after a visit.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Bilbao before heading out.

  2. Mercado de la Ribera 21 min

The camera crosses the covered market on the Nervión, one of Europe's largest, past the fish counters. The guide points out where the bar kitchens buy the cod for bacalao al pil-pil before the evening rush.

  3. Siete Calles bar counters 21 min

Inside a bar on the Siete Calles, the guide points at a gilda on the counter, the pickled pepper and anchovy skewer, then a hot pintxo just out of the kitchen. He explains how the tab is kept by the toothpicks left on your plate.

  4. Plaza Nueva 21 min

In the arcaded neoclassical square, the guide has a glass of txakoli poured from height, the traditional way to aerate the wine, alongside a small zurito of beer. He runs through the pintxo bar rules, from where to stand to how to settle up.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Bilbao: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Bacalao al pil-pil and Abandoibarra, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
