About this tour

This session covers what is left of the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, once one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. You see the excavated foundations and a small collection of carved fragments kept close to where they were found. Ayşe explains how the site went from a famous tomb to a modern excavation with very little standing above ground.

The call starts with a sound check at the site entrance, then moves across the foundations as Ayşe points out what each surviving stone once supported. She answers questions throughout and sends a short note afterwards on where the rest of the stone ended up.

This suits anyone curious about the Seven Wonders who wants an honest look at how little survives rather than a reconstruction. It also pairs well with a session on Bodrum Castle nearby.

Included

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Bodrum before heading out.

  2. Excavated foundations 15 min

The camera moves across the excavated base of the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, and Ayşe points out the foundation stones that are almost all that remains of a structure once counted among the Seven Wonders.

  3. Scattered fragments 15 min

You see carved fragments kept on site in a small covered area, and Ayşe explains how much of the original stone was carried off over the centuries to build the nearby castle.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Bodrum: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Bodrum mandarin marmalade and Yalıkavak, worth a slower look.

  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
