Art Nouveau Brussels: Horta's houses from the street
Highlights
- Horta's curved ironwork, explained
- An architect's own house, examined
- Spotting real Art Nouveau from copies
- Ixelles street by architectural street
- A movement traced across real buildings
About this tour
This session follows the Art Nouveau movement through three Brussels addresses, from an early Horta house to his own former home and a wider residential street. You see the curved ironwork and glasswork that defined the style, then learn to spot the difference between an original building and a later copy. It traces one architectural movement across real streets rather than a single stop.
We take this one at a proper pace, since the details reward close attention, starting with a sound check outside the first house. I stop fully at each address for questions about the style or the architect before moving on. A short list of the buildings and further reading follows by message afterwards.
It suits anyone with an interest in architecture or design history. It also works well for a longer, slower session rather than a quick overview.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 7 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Brussels before heading out.
-
Hotel Tassel facade 21 min
We stand across from one of Horta's earliest Art Nouveau houses, and I point out the curved ironwork balcony that shocked its first viewers.
-
Horta Museum exterior 21 min
The camera takes in the architect's own former house, and I explain why the facade alone tells you so much about his approach to materials.
-
Ixelles Art Nouveau street 21 min
We finish walking a residential street lined with Art Nouveau houses, and I point out the details that separate a genuine one from a later imitation.
-
Your questions 14 min
Time to ask anything about Brussels: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 6 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Speculoos and Marolles, worth a slower look.

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
