About this tour
This session follows Budapest's Art Nouveau through the work of Ödön Lechner and the buildings that took his style further. The camera moves from the Zsolnay-tiled roof of the Postal Savings Bank to the ironwork of the Gresham Palace courtyard, then finishes between the foyer of the Liszt Academy and the covered Párisi Udvar arcade. It treats the city's rooftops and doorways as a single, connected style.
After a sound check, the walk moves building to building in the order above, with the guide taking questions on the architecture and its Hungarian influences throughout. A short list of the buildings and their architects goes out once the call ends.
This suits anyone with an interest in architecture who wants a specific thread through Budapest rather than a general overview. It also suits someone who has walked past these buildings without knowing they belonged to the same movement.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 7 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Budapest before heading out.
-
Postal Savings Bank 21 min
The camera looks up at Ödön Lechner's Postal Savings Bank, its roof covered in glazed Zsolnay tiles shaped like folk motifs, a style the guide calls distinctly Hungarian rather than borrowed from Vienna.
-
Gresham Palace courtyard 21 min
Inside the Gresham Palace courtyard, the camera takes in ironwork and stained glass built for an insurance company that wanted its headquarters to look unmistakably modern for its time.
-
Liszt Academy and Párisi Udvar 21 min
The walk finishes at the Liszt Academy, where the camera looks into the foyer from the doorway, then through the Párisi Udvar arcade, its glass roof and mosaic tiles closing out the style in one covered street.
-
Your questions 14 min

-
A short list to keep 6 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Goulash and Pest riverside, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
