The monastery in the olive groves
Highlights
- A monastery among olive groves
- Frescoes restored more than once
- Two churches, two painting styles
- Quiet monastery, busy old town
- Religious art compared side by side
About this tour
This session pairs a monastery outside town with a church inside it, comparing how each approached the same kind of religious painting. You see the monastery set among olive groves, then the frescoes inside the old town's own striped church. It moves between a quiet outer setting and a busier central one.
I explain the monastery's restoration history first, then compare its frescoes directly with the church's once we are back in the old town. Questions about either style are welcome throughout.
This suits anyone with a genuine interest in religious painting on this coast. It also suits anyone who wants to see beyond the old town's walls at least once.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Budva before heading out.
-
Podmaine Monastery 15 min
You see an Orthodox monastery set among olive groves just outside town, and I explain how the frescoes inside its church have been restored more than once over the centuries.
-
Holy Trinity Church Frescoes 15 min
The camera returns to the old town's striped church to compare its interior frescoes with the monastery's, and I point out how differently the two were painted.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Budva: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Riblja čorba (fish soup) and Bečići, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
