The basilica that watches over Cagliari's port
Highlights
- A basilica watching over the working port
- Centuries as a pilgrimage site for sailors
- Ex-voto offerings left in thanks
- One of Cagliari's clearest harbour views
- Maritime history, told at the source
About this tour
This session looks at the Basilica di Bonaria, a pilgrimage site overlooking Cagliari's port, and explains why its position made it significant to sailors for centuries. You see the basilica's exterior and a few of the ex-voto offerings left nearby by those giving thanks for a safe voyage. The camera stays on the public terrace throughout.
I start with the basilica's position and its history as a pilgrimage site, then look closer at a few specific offerings and what they represent. I take questions throughout and send a short note on the site's history afterwards.
It suits anyone interested in maritime history or religious pilgrimage sites. It also gives one of the clearest views over Cagliari's working port.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
