Avanos, pottery on the wheel, on camera
Highlights
- Red clay dug from the riverbank
- A wheel turning by hand
- A pot rising from a lump of clay
- Hand movements keeping the walls even
- Clay and craft, connected
About this tour
This session follows Avanos pottery from the river that supplies its clay to a wheel actually turning in a workshop. You see where the clay is dug from the riverbank, then watch a pot take shape by hand on the wheel. The two stops connect the material to the finished craft.
I start with a sound check by the river, then we move to the workshop while you ask questions about the process. I keep the camera close on the wheel so you can follow the hand movements clearly. At the end I send a short note explaining the steps we saw.
This suits anyone interested in traditional crafts rather than only landscapes and history. It also suits someone planning to bring a piece of pottery home who wants to understand how it is made.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Cappadocia before heading out.
-
Riverside Clay Pit 21 min
The camera looks over the river that gives Avanos its red clay. I explain how the clay is still dug from the riverbank the way it has been for generations.
-
Pottery Wheel in Motion 21 min
You watch a wheel turning as a shape rises from a lump of clay. I point out the hand movements that keep the walls of the pot even as it grows taller.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Cappadocia: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Testi kebab (pottery kebab) and Göreme, worth a slower look.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
