Çavuşin's cliffside village, on camera
Highlights
- Cave houses stacked into a cliff
- A village left for a newer one
- An old rock-cut church facade
- A carved doorway seen from below
- A village quietly left behind
About this tour
This session looks at old Çavuşin, a cliffside village left for a newer settlement nearby. You see the abandoned cave houses stacked into the rock, then the facade of an old rock-cut church partway up the cliff. Together the stops explain why a whole village was quietly left behind.
I begin with a sound check at the base of the cliff, then we move along while you ask questions about the history. I point out details in the church facade that are easy to miss from a distance. At the end I send a short note on what we discussed.
This suits anyone interested in the more personal side of Cappadocia's history. It also suits a traveller who grew up hearing family stories about places like this one.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
