About this tour
This session shows Love Valley from a ridge above and from the floor looking back up. You see dozens of tall rock spires from a distance, then one up close with its layered stem and rounded cap, before the camera drops down for a view from below. Each stop explains a different part of how this landscape formed.
I open with a sound check at the ridge, then we move down toward the valley floor while you ask questions about the erosion. I slow down at the close-up stop, since the rock layers are easier to see from that distance. Afterwards I send a short note on the geology we covered.
This suits anyone drawn to Cappadocia's more unusual rock formations rather than only its history. It also suits a traveller who wants the geological explanation behind photographs they may have already seen.

Love Valley Ridge 17 min
From the ridge above the valley, the camera takes in dozens of tall, narrow rock spires below. I explain how softer rock around them eroded away while the harder caps protected the columns beneath.

Spire Close-Up 17 min
You see one of the spires up close, its rounded cap sitting on a narrower stem of rock. I point out the different rock layers visible in the stem itself.

Valley Floor 17 min
The camera comes down to the valley floor, looking back up at the spires from below. I explain how the whole landscape continues to erode slowly, year by year.
