About this tour

This session begins at Casa das Historias Paula Rego, the museum built in two striking red towers to hold the painter's work, then walks into the older streets of Cascais nearby. You see the towers from the garden and, a short walk later, the calcada-paved lanes around Praca 5 de Outubro. It connects one of the town's more modern buildings to its oldest centre.

After a short sound check outside the museum we move at a steady pace toward the old town, stopping twice for questions about the building's design and the streets it leads into. I send a short list of names and dates afterwards.

It suits anyone with an interest in modern art and architecture, as well as travellers who want the old town shown alongside something more contemporary. The museum's interior is not filmed; this session shows the exterior and the streets around it.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Cascais before heading out.

  2. Casa das Historias Paula Rego 21 min

The camera shows the museum's two red pyramid-topped towers from the garden outside, and I explain why the building was designed to echo the painter's own work rather than look like a traditional gallery.

  3. Into the old town 21 min

We walk from the museum toward Praca 5 de Outubro, and I point out the calcada pavement patterns and the cafes where Rego is said to have sat while visiting family in Cascais.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Cascais: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Grilled fish (peixe grelhado) and Guincho, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Lisbon time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
