About this tour
This session is a cooking class inside a family taverna kitchen in Chania, following the guide's mother from dough to oven. The camera moves from the counter where kalitsounia and a wild greens pie take shape, to the stove where chicken, lamb or stuffed vegetables cook, and out to the plane tree courtyard where the family eats together. It is built around one kitchen and one family, not a tour of the city.
After a short sound check the call follows the cooking in order, from the first dough to the last dish reaching the table, with room throughout for questions about ingredients and method. The guide sends a written recipe afterwards so the steps are not lost.
This suits anyone who wants to see Cretan home cooking made the way one family has always made it, rather than a restaurant version. It also works well for someone planning their own attempt at kalitsounia or boureki and wanting to watch the technique first.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 10 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Chania before heading out.
-
Taverna kitchen 21 min
The camera stays close on the counter while the guide's mother rolls dough for kalitsounia and a pie filled with wild greens gathered that morning, her hands moving faster than the explanation.
-
Wood-fired stove 21 min
At the stove, the camera follows chicken or lamb going in with Cretan herbs, or vegetables being stuffed and set to bake, while the guide explains which herbs come from the family's own land.
-
Village pantry shelf 21 min
The guide brings the camera to a shelf of olive oil, dried herbs and cheese made in their own village, naming each one and how it gets into the dishes cooking nearby.
-
Plane tree courtyard 21 min
Under the plane tree in the courtyard, the camera settles on the set table while the guide's family gathers around it, a scene repeated most days at the end of service.
-
Your questions 18 min
Time to ask anything about Chania: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 8 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Raki (tsikoudia) and Old Town, worth a slower look.

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
