Petite Venise, canal by canal
Highlights
- Pastel canal houses along the Lauch
- Colours that once marked a tanner's house
- The classic view from Pont Saint-Pierre
- A local's read on Petite Venise
- A calm, unhurried canal walk
About this tour
This walk follows the canal through Petite Venise, Colmar's most photographed quarter, from the pastel houses of the Lauch to the view from Pont Saint-Pierre. You see the colours and reflections that make this stretch so recognisable, stop by stop rather than in a single wide shot. Marie, who has lived beside the canal her whole life, explains what the colours and window boxes actually meant to the people who lived here.
After a short sound check by the water, the walk moves at an unhurried pace along the canal. Marie answers questions as they come and slows the camera whenever the light or the reflections are worth pausing for. A short list of the stops follows by message once the call ends.
This suits anyone who wants a calm, visual introduction to Colmar's old town. It also works well as a first stop before exploring the rest of the city.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Colmar before heading out.
-
Canal houses at the Lauch 21 min
The camera follows the pastel façades leaning gently over the water, window boxes bright against the painted walls. I point out which colours traditionally marked a tanner's house apart from a fisherman's.
-
Pont Saint-Pierre view 21 min
From the bridge, the camera looks back along the whole canal in one frame, the church tower rising behind the rooftops. I explain why this exact spot became the postcard image of Colmar.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Colmar: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Tarte flambée and Petite Venise, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
