St Fin Barre's and the old south parish
Highlights
- Three Gothic Revival spires
- A site linked to a 7th-century monk
- Quiet streets of the old south parish
- Victorian rebuilding over an older core
- An easy walk through church history
About this tour
This session looks at Cork's oldest religious site and the quiet parish streets around it, from the three spires of St Fin Barre's Cathedral to the older houses running down toward the river. You see the scale of the Victorian building against a site with roots going back over a thousand years. It stays outdoors and moves at an easy pace.
After a short sound check we walk from the cathedral green down through the parish streets, pausing wherever the architecture changes. I answer questions live as they come, and I send a short note afterwards on the cathedral's history for anyone who wants to read further.
It suits anyone interested in church architecture or in Cork's older, quieter corners away from the main shopping streets.

-
St Fin Barre's Cathedral exterior 21 min
The camera takes in the three Gothic Revival spires from the cathedral green, and I explain how the current building replaced an older one on a site linked to a 7th-century monastery.

The old south parish streets 21 min
You see the narrow streets running down toward the river south of the cathedral, and I point out house fronts that predate the Victorian rebuilding around them.

Time to ask anything about Cork: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Drisheen and Sunday's Well, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
