The Markt, between two churches
Highlights
- Two churches facing one square
- The Dutch royal family's burial place
- A market square, heard before explained
- A tower with a view over the city
- A compact introduction to Delft
About this tour
This session opens on the Markt itself before comparing the two churches that face each other across it. You hear why the Nieuwe Kerk holds the Dutch royal family's tombs while the older church nearby simply leans, and see the square's daily rhythm of market stalls and cafes. It stays entirely within one square and its two landmarks.
We start with a minute of just watching the square, since the market sound alone says something about the city. From there I explain each church in turn, then take questions about either one. A short note on visiting the tower follows by message.
It suits anyone who wants a compact introduction to Delft's centre in a single session. It also works well as a first stop before any of the more specific history or craft sessions.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Delft before heading out.
-
Markt square 21 min
The camera holds on the open square first, letting the sound of the market carry for a moment before I start explaining what stands on either end of it.
-
Nieuwe Kerk tower 21 min
Looking up at the Nieuwe Kerk, I explain why the royal family is buried beneath it and point out the tower most visitors climb for the view.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Delft: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Kibbeling and Wippolder, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.

- Times are shown in Amsterdam time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
