  • Mechanical figures still keeping time
  • A quick, detail-focused half hour

About this tour

This short session focuses on Notre-Dame de Dijon, from its rows of carved gargoyles to the mechanical Jacquemart clock on its tower. You see details that are easy to miss from street level, held steady long enough to actually study them. Isabelle explains the clock's unusual origin story, since it did not start out in Dijon at all.

The call opens with a sound check outside the church, then moves to the clock tower's base. Isabelle keeps the pace measured, timing the visit for the clock where possible, and answers questions as they arise. A short list of what was shown follows by message afterwards.

This suits anyone with a short window of time and an interest in church architecture. It also works well as an add-on to a longer ducal palace session.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Dijon before heading out.

  2. Notre-Dame façade 15 min

The camera holds on the rows of carved gargoyles lining the church's façade, each one different from the next. I point out the small owl carved into a side wall, now a symbol of the city.

  3. The Jacquemart clock 15 min

You see the mechanical figures of the Jacquemart clock, ready to strike the hour or standing still between chimes. I explain where the clock actually came from, since it was not built for Dijon originally.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Dijon: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Coq au vin and Quartier des Antiquaires, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Paris time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
