  • The Elbe view that gave the terrace its name
  • A raised walk above the old town

About this tour

This session walks Brühl's Terrace, the raised promenade above the Elbe nicknamed the Balcony of Europe. You see the view that earned the terrace its name, then the ornamental steps leading down toward the river. The session finishes among the sculpture work added when the terrace opened to the public in the nineteenth century.

We start with a short sound check at one end of the terrace. I walk slowly along its length, since the view changes gradually, and take questions about the terrace's history throughout. Afterwards I send a short note on the sculptures and their dates.

This suits anyone who wants an easy, scenic walk with some history attached. It also works well paired with the Frauenkirche session for a fuller Altstadt visit.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Dresden before heading out.

  2. Brühl's Terrace promenade 21 min

The camera follows the raised promenade above the Elbe, and I explain how it earned the nickname the Balcony of Europe from visitors admiring the view centuries ago.

  3. The terrace steps and gardens 21 min

We pass the ornamental steps leading down toward the river, and I point out the sculpture work added when the terrace was opened to the public in the nineteenth century.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Dresden: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Dresdner Stollen (Christmas fruit bread) and Neustadt, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
