  • Dresden off the usual route

About this tour

This session moves through a couple of Dresden's less obvious corners, from a quiet courtyard behind the main square to a narrow back lane near the river. You see a carved doorway that dates one building to well before the more famous reconstructions nearby. The session finishes on the lane, among a few original buildings that survived the bombing that destroyed most of the surrounding blocks.

We open with a short sound check in the courtyard. I move slowly through both spots, since there is a fair bit of small detail to point out, and take questions about the buildings' survival throughout. Afterwards I send a short note on what we saw and why it matters.

This suits anyone who has already seen the main Altstadt sights and wants something quieter. It also works well as a companion session to a more conventional history walk.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Dresden before heading out.

  2. A quiet courtyard behind the main square 21 min

The camera slips into a courtyard most visitors walk straight past, and I point out a carved detail on a doorway that dates the building to well before the more famous reconstructions nearby.

  3. A back lane near the river 21 min

We follow a narrow lane that most maps leave unlabelled, and I explain how a few original buildings here survived the bombing that destroyed most of the surrounding blocks.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Dresden: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Eierschecke (layered cake) and Neustadt, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Berlin time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
