About this tour

This session moves through Dresden's Neustadt, from the Kunsthofpassage's singing drainpipe wall to the independent streets of the Äußere Neustadt and the tiled front of Pfunds Molkerei. The camera stays close to courtyards and shopfronts rather than the grand buildings across the river. The guide ends at a courtyard bar with the story of the Bunte Republik Neustadt, the district's own mock republic from 1990.

The call opens with a short sound check, then moves through the district courtyard by courtyard, leaving time for questions along the way. A short list of the courtyards and shops mentioned follows by message once the call ends.

This suits anyone who wants a livelier side of Dresden than the rebuilt old town, whether planning a visit or simply curious about how the city changed after 1990. It also works for anyone who likes a walk that turns into an evening out.

  • Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 10 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Dresden before heading out.

  2. Kunsthofpassage courtyards 21 min

The Kunsthofpassage courtyards link together behind ordinary shopfronts, and the guide stops at the singing drainpipe wall, its gutters and funnels built to make sound when rain runs through them.

  3. Äußere Neustadt streets 21 min

Walking through the Äußere Neustadt, the guide explains how this became Dresden's alternative quarter, full of independent shops and murals rather than the rebuilt grandeur of the old town across the river.

  4. Pfunds Molkerei 21 min

Outside Pfunds Molkerei, its facade covered in hand-painted tiles, the guide describes the dairy shop's interior through the doorway and explains how it has kept the same look for well over a century.

  5. Courtyard bar 21 min

The walk ends at a courtyard bar, where the guide tells stories of the Bunte Republik Neustadt, the mock republic locals declared here in 1990, while a beer is poured behind the counter.

  6. Your questions 18 min

Time to ask anything about Dresden: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  7. A short list to keep 8 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Sächsischer Sauerbraten and Neustadt, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Berlin time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
