About this tour
This session follows Dresden's old town through its destruction and rebuilding, from the blackened stones set into the Frauenkirche's walls to the porcelain Fürstenzug mural and the Zwinger courtyard beneath Brühl's Terrace. The camera points out which stones and tiles are original and which are new. The guide explains two separate periods of rebuilding, one after 1945 and another after 1990.
The call opens with a short sound check, then follows the old town stop by stop, with time for questions about what survived and what did not. A short list of the buildings and their rebuilding dates follows by message afterwards.
This suits anyone interested in how a city rebuilds itself after destruction, whether planning a visit to Dresden or simply curious about its history. It also works for anyone who already knows the skyline and wants the story behind it.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 7 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Dresden before heading out.
-
Frauenkirche exterior 21 min
Outside the Frauenkirche, the guide points out the dark, blackened stones set among the newer pale ones, original pieces saved from the ruins and rebuilt into the walls when the church reopened in 2005.
-
Fürstenzug porcelain mural 21 min
The Fürstenzug mural stretches along a nearby wall, a procession of Saxon rulers made from more than twenty thousand Meissen porcelain tiles, and the guide points out how the tiles survived the bombing that flattened most of the street around them.
-
Zwinger and Brühl's Terrace 21 min
The walk ends in the Zwinger's courtyard, past the Semperoper opera house, and up onto Brühl's Terrace above the Elbe, where the guide explains how the old town was rebuilt twice, once after 1945 and again after 1990.

-
A short list to keep 6 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Dresdner Stollen (Christmas fruit bread) and Altstadt, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
