The Grand Canal and Silicon Docks
Highlights
- An industrial canal turned business district
- Glass towers reflected in still water
- A nickname earned from tech companies
- Two decades of waterside transformation
- A calm towpath walk near the centre
About this tour
This session follows the Grand Canal from its still basin to the modern office towers that now line the water, explaining how an old industrial route became one of Dublin's newest business districts. You see the contrast between quiet water and glass architecture along a short, flat walk. It stays along the canal throughout, moving at an easy pace.
After a short sound check by the basin, I walk the towpath stop by stop, explaining the area's transformation as each building comes into view. I take questions live as they come and send a short note afterwards on the canal's earlier industrial history for anyone who wants to read further.
It suits anyone interested in urban change and modern architecture, and anyone who enjoys a calm waterside walk close to the city centre.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Dublin before heading out.
-
The Grand Canal basin 21 min
The camera takes in the still water of the canal basin, and I explain how this stretch shifted from an industrial shipping route to a modern office quarter over the past two decades.
-
The docks' modern towers 21 min
You see glass office towers reflected in the canal water, and I point out how the area earned its nickname from the technology companies now based here.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Dublin: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Guinness and The Liberties, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- Times are shown in Dublin time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
