  • A calm early morning on the strand

About this tour

This early session looks at one of Dublin's most important wildlife sites, a wide tidal strand recognised internationally as a feeding ground for migratory wading birds. You see the exposed flats at low tide and the birds working the water's edge, with species and their migration explained as we watch. It stays along the shore throughout, timed to the tide for the best wildlife viewing.

After a short sound check at the strand's edge, I move stop by stop, letting the birds hold the screen before explaining what makes this stretch significant. I take questions live as they come and send a short note afterwards on the best tide times for anyone who wants to visit themselves.

It suits anyone interested in birdwatching and coastal ecology, and early risers who want a calm, natural start to the day.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Dublin before heading out.

  2. The exposed tidal flats 21 min

The camera takes in the wide expanse of sand exposed at low tide, and I explain why this stretch is recognised as an internationally important feeding ground for wading birds.

  3. Wading birds at work 21 min

You see birds feeding along the water's edge, and I point out species that migrate long distances specifically to use this bay through the winter.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Dublin: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Seafood chowder and Georgian Quarter, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Dublin time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
