The City Walls, from Pile to Ploče
Highlights
- Nearly two kilometres of mediaeval wall
- A fort built to jut into the sea
- Thicker walls facing the open water
- Dubrovnik's harbour seen from above
- The old town's full defensive line
About this tour
This session walks a full stretch of Dubrovnik's City Walls, nearly two kilometres of mediaeval fortification, from Pile Gate to the Ploče end. You see Fort Bokar jutting into the sea near the start, the thicker seaward stretch built to withstand attack from the water, and finally the harbour and Fort Revelin from above as the walk ends. It is the clearest way to understand how the old town was defended.
We move along the ramparts stop by stop, checking the connection at each bastion, and take questions throughout rather than saving them for the end. A short list of what we passed follows once the session ends.
It suits anyone who wants the walls explained properly rather than walked quickly in passing. It also suits an early or late booking, when the stone is at its coolest.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

- A short list of places to visit later

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 7 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Dubrovnik before heading out.
-
Pile Gate to Fort Bokar 21 min
The camera climbs the wall from Pile Gate, and I point out Fort Bokar jutting into the sea below as the first bastion on the route.
-
Along the sea walls 21 min
We continue along the seaward stretch, and I explain why this side was built thicker than the landward walls facing the hills.
-
Arriving at Ploče 21 min
We finish near the Ploče end of the circuit, and I show the harbour and Fort Revelin from the wall above it.
-
Your questions 14 min
Time to ask anything about Dubrovnik: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 6 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Dalmatian pršut and Ploče, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Zagreb time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
