Duddingston Loch beneath Arthur's Seat
Highlights
- A village beneath Arthur's Seat
- One of Edinburgh's oldest kirks
- Still water and reeds at the loch
- A protected bird sanctuary
- The hill seen from below for once
About this tour
This session moves through Duddingston village to the loch itself, sitting quietly at the foot of Arthur's Seat. You see stone cottages, an old kirk still in regular use, and the still water of the loch with the hill rising directly behind it. Eilidh explains why this small area is protected as a bird sanctuary.
After a short sound check in the village, the session settles by the loch for a longer, quieter stretch, with time for questions throughout. Eilidh answers as you go and sends a short note afterwards on the birds most commonly seen there.
It suits anyone who wants a genuinely quiet session away from the busier parts of the city, and works well for birdwatchers. It also appeals to those who enjoy Arthur's Seat from below rather than climbing it.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
