About this tour
This session walks the Georgian New Town, from Charlotte Square out through Circus Lane to Dean Village and Stockbridge on the Water of Leith. You hear why James Craig's 1767 plan gave the streets their royal names, see the converted mews houses of Circus Lane, and follow the river down into one of the city's oldest villages. It traces how an eighteenth-century plan still shapes how people live here.
The call begins with a sound check, then follows the New Town's grid downhill towards the river at an easy pace, with the guide stopping at each terrace or lane worth a closer look. There is time for questions along the way, and a short list of the streets and their stories comes through by message afterwards.
This suits anyone interested in town planning and Georgian architecture as much as Edinburgh itself. It also suits those who know the New Town's shops but have never walked its back lanes.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
