The view from the castle's bastion
Highlights
- A bastion built to cover blind angles
- A rooftop view little changed since 1552
- The castle's design, explained practically
- Eger's centre, seen from above
- A defence built into the landscape itself
About this tour
This session looks at Eger from one of the castle's bastions, built to cover angles the main walls could not defend alone. You see the bastion's structure and then the view over the town's rooftops from it, with an explanation of how little the centre's layout has changed since the siege. It stays on the bastion throughout.
I keep a formal, steady pace after a short sound check, since the view rewards a slower explanation of what you are actually looking at. Questions about the castle's wider defences are welcome throughout.
This suits anyone who wants a view of the town paired with real military context rather than just a photo opportunity. It also works well as a final session after the siege and minaret tours.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Eger before heading out.
-
Bishop's Bastion Wall 15 min
The camera stands on one of the castle's defensive bastions, and I explain how its design let defenders cover angles the main walls could not.
-
Rooftop View 15 min
You see the town's rooftops spread out below the bastion, and I point out how little the layout of the centre has changed since the siege.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Eger: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Gulyás and Almagyar-domb, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Budapest time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
