  • Evora's water history, arch by arch

About this tour

This session follows the Aqueduto da Agua de Prata from its open arches on the edge of town to the point where it disappears into the walls of houses closer to the centre. You see the visible stonework first, then the stranger sight of arches absorbed into later buildings. I studied engineering before guiding, so the structure itself interests me as much as its history.

We start with a sound check by the open arches, then follow the line toward the old town for the second stop, pausing for questions about how the water system worked. I send a short list of what was covered afterwards.

It suits anyone curious about historic engineering and how a city grows around, rather than away from, its old infrastructure. This session follows public streets along the aqueduct's route rather than entering any of the houses built into it.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Evora before heading out.

  2. The open arches 21 min

The camera follows a stretch of open arches on the edge of town, and I explain how the 16th-century aqueduct carried water into the walled city from several kilometres away.

  3. Arches inside the houses 21 min

We move closer to the old town, where the arches are built directly into house walls, and I point out which openings were once part of the water channel.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Evora: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Acorda alentejana (bread and garlic soup) and Historic centre, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Lisbon time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
