Tomas Barbosa

I studied engineering before I started guiding, which is probably why the old aqueduct interests me more than most of Evora's grander monuments. Watching houses built directly into its arches tells you as much about the city's history as any single building does, and I like showing that on camera stop by stop rather than as one wide shot. At the university courtyard I slow down at the tile panels and explain what each scene shows, since most visitors walk past them without reading what is actually painted. Ten years of guiding has not made the arches any less interesting to me.
