About this tour
This session covers old Fethiye from the Roman theatre to the Lycian tombs carved into the hill above the harbour. You see the amphitheatre's stone rows up close, then the camera moves to the tomb facades cut straight into the cliff. From there I walk you through the rebuilt lanes of Paspatur, where the old bazaar still follows its original shape.
I start with a sound check and a quick look at the route, then we move stop by stop while you ask questions as we go. Partway through I stop at a quiet corner of the bazaar so you can see the stonework clearly. Near the end I send a short list of names and dates from the session so you have something to keep.
This suits anyone curious about how a small Anatolian town carries centuries of history in one hillside. It also works well if you are planning your own visit and want the background before you arrive.

Fethiye Amphitheatre 21 min
You see the curved rows of stone seats cut into the hillside above the harbour, built when the town was still called Telmessos. I point out how the theatre faces the water and explain why the site was chosen.

Lycian Rock Tombs 21 min
The camera tilts up to the cliff face where temple-fronted tombs are carved directly into the rock. I explain how the columns were cut from the stone itself, not built and attached afterwards.

Paspatur Lanes 21 min
You follow me through the narrow streets of the old bazaar quarter, rebuilt after the 1957 earthquake. I show you a few of the original stone doorways that survived and how the town was laid out again around them.
