Nimmo's Pier and the Corrib mouth
Highlights
- Where the Corrib meets Galway Bay
- Salmon gathering before the run
- Wading birds on the tidal flats
- A fisherman's own childhood ground
- A calm early morning by the water
About this tour
This early session follows a stone pier where the River Corrib meets Galway Bay, watching the water for salmon and the birds that feed on the exposed flats at low tide. You see the meeting of river and sea from someone who has fished this stretch since boyhood. It stays by the water throughout, timed for the best chance of seeing wildlife.
After a short sound check on the pier, I move stop by stop, letting the water and the birds hold the screen before I explain what we are watching. I answer questions live as they come and send a short note afterwards on the salmon run's seasonal timing.
It suits anyone interested in wildlife and fishing history, and early risers who want the calmest part of the day by the water.

Good to know

- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Dublin time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
