About this tour

This session moves through the Gaziantep Archaeology Museum, from carved Hittite panels to Roman-era finds and a case dedicated to Dülük just outside the city. You see recurring carved figures, small Roman objects including coins and jewellery, and finally tomb finds connected directly to a site you can still visit. Each stop links an object in the case to a real place nearby.

I begin with a sound check at the Hittite panels, then we move case by case while you ask questions about the finds. I slow down at the Dülük display, since it connects most directly to somewhere you could visit afterwards. Afterwards I send a short written note on what we saw.

This suits anyone with a genuine interest in the region's ancient history rather than a quick overview. It also works well before a session at Dülük itself.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Not included

  • Internet connection
  • Travel to the city

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Gaziantep before heading out.

  2. Hittite Stone Carvings 17 min

The camera moves along carved stone panels from regional Hittite sites. I explain the recurring figures and what they were thought to represent.

  3. Roman Finds Room 17 min

You see smaller Roman-era objects, coins and jewellery, laid out in cases. I point out a couple of pieces connected directly to sites around Gaziantep.

  4. Dülük Display 17 min

From a case dedicated to Dülük, the camera shows tomb finds from just outside the city. I explain how these objects connect to the rock-cut tombs still visible there today.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Gaziantep: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Menengiç coffee (wild pistachio coffee) and Şahinbey, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Istanbul time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
